Diversity and Inclusion: Understanding the Trans Community

On November 24, 2024, Ms Archana Suresh, Director T-SIG attended the “Translate” event in Hyderabad, organised by the LGBTQIA+ community. This event featured eight speakers who shared their personal journeys and struggles with gender identity.

A transgender person, defined as someone who identifies differently from their assigned gender at birth, often faces significant discrimination and misconceptions. It’s crucial for the cisgender majority, who have not had the same experiences, to educate themselves for better understanding. Archana’s perception shifted profoundly after a Changemaker session in 2018, where a transgender woman shared her harrowing encounter with societal rejection and limited job opportunities.

CSR initiatives like Synopsys’ “Hope in a Cup” cafe and HSBC’s restaurant project are vital steps toward inclusivity.
