Problem

In today’s times, Internet has become an all pervasive medium to access information and be part of the global community. However, those who don’t have access or understanding of this medium are being left out. Technology can tremendously help underprivileged sections to participate in this new age, remove the middlemen and access services hitherto unavailable or inaccessible for them including government schemes, scholarships, job vacancies etc. In addition, having the knowledge to protect oneself on internet from online identity theft and other cyber crimes is equally important. Through this project, Nirmaan aims to create digital awareness and literacy in Hyderabad and surrounding areas among citizens of 14-60 age group with focus on women, youth and children.

Objective

” – To empower communities with capacity building and training programs and make them digitally literate using ICT as an outreach platform. – To create an opportunity for collaboration of industry bodies to enhance digital literacy in the country. “

Description/Summary

““Digital Literacy is the ability of individuals and communities to understand and use digital technologies for meaningful actions within life situations”. The aim is to strengthen the Government’s mission which aims to empower at least one person per household with digital literacy skills by 2020. The program would not only bridge the digital divide existing within the country but would also empower its beneficiaries to adopt internet technology for their day to day living – Project will have four phases of Mobilization, Training, Online assessments and Certification: – Community Mobilization for creating awareness in the community on digital literacy program and helping students in enrolling for the courses. – Training of 6 modules including financial so that the candidates will be able to operate computer/laptops for accessing, creating, managing, sharing information and digital transactions. – Beneficiaries who are trained on Digital literacy modules & finance modules, they will have a term end examination and certification is done by Government of India agencies.” The funding support will be utilized for setting up such a center in a needy community in Secunderabad. The funding will be used to engage citizens between 14 to 60 years in diverse communities to significantly impact human development indices with women, youth and children being the primary target groups. This support will help in setting up a center close to the communities.
