Problem

The importance of sports and games in school encompasses more than just the benefit of physical activity. Increases in self-esteem and mental alertness make school sports and games necessary for every school age child. Games and sports are an integral part of a student’s life. A student should study hard to be successful in competitive examinations. But, he should also play games and sports to enjoy the health and vigor of life. Failing to realize this makes the student life incomplete.

Objective

The main objective of this project is to inspire young boys and girls to chance their talent and hone their skills in sporting disciplines of their interest, through dedication and practice.

Description/Summary

Over the last 5 years, as part of its ongoing efforts, SCF launched an ingenious project ‘Build India Through Sports’ (BITS), which aspires to spread awareness about Sports in Government Schools (also among under-privileged street children, in orphan homes, slum areas, etc) and also support infrastructure for continued sports activity. As part of this mission, SCF has already reached out to more than 50 Government schools (about 25,000 children), where a substantial percentage of students have had no exposure to sports of any kind, before in their life. SCF has donated sporting equipment and created basic infrastructure in these schools to promote sports like Cricket, Football, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi. A protocol of follow up is also seriously pursued to ensure that SCF can connect the missing dots of success of sports in these schools. SCF has not confined itself to a few centers in Hyderabad city, but has also visited several semi-urban towns to train children in Cricket, Football, Tennis, Basketball, Kho-Kho & Kabaddi. SCF has reached out to these towns with ultra-modern equipment like Bowling Machine, Digital Speed Gun, Footwork Practice Balls and VCD projector with latest DVDs on coaching in various games. This was done with the core intention of promoting games & sports among children in remote areas, where such facilities are not available. SCF has covered most of the district headquarters in AP and Telangana as part of its ‘Build India Through Sports’ campaign. SCF has also contributed to the development of Sports activities in some remote areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka
